Dilated Cardiomyopathy and Ischemic Heart Failure Models in Pigs
نویسنده
چکیده
A previous manuscript on this website, SURGICALLY PRODUCED VOLUME AND PRESSURE OVERLOAD HEART FAILURE MODELS IN SWINE, discussed heart failure models that could be produced in swine using selected surgical techniques. Pressure overload hypertrophy is produced by surgical banding of the great vessels of the heart and leads to concentric hypertrophy of the heart. Volume overload hypertrophy of the heart is produced by surgically creating valvular regurgitation or an arteriovenous fistula leading to eccentric hypertrophy of the heart. These conditions lead to different types of heart failure which are reviewed in the previous manuscript. The manuscript also describes the anatomy and physiology of the porcine heart. 1

The value of myocardial perfusion imaging in differentiating between idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy from the ischemic form [Persian]
Introduction: Differentiating between ischemic cardiomyopathy (ICM) and idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy (IDCM) is important as coronary revascularization can improve prognosis in the ischemic subgroup. Due to inherent problems of coronary angiography in patients with depressed ejection fraction (EF) introducing a noninvasive tool to diagnose those who will benefit from angiography seems...
متن کاملLarge animal models of heart failure: a critical link in the translation of basic science to clinical practice.
Congestive heart failure (HF) is a clinical syndrome, with hallmarks of fatigue and dyspnea, that continues to be highly prevalent and morbid. Because of the growing burden of HF as the population ages, the need to develop new pharmacological treatments and therapeutic interventions is of paramount importance. Common pathophysiologic features of HF include changes in left ventricle structure, f...

متن کاملEvaluation of transesophageal echocardiography in detecting cardiac sources of emboli in ischemic stroke patients
Background: Embolus is one of the causes of ischemic stroke that can be due to cardiac sources such as valvular heart diseases and atrial fibrillation and atheroma of the aorta. Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) is superior in identifying potential cardiac sources of emboli. Due to insufficient data on TEE findings in ischemic stroke in Iran, the present study was done to evaluate TEE in...
متن کاملThe Pathophysiology of Heart Failure in Children: The Basics
Few data exist on the pathophysiologic changes in pediatric heart failure. Most of the knowledge has evolved from animal models of ischemic or idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy. This review addresses the pathophysiologic changes that occur in the failing heart from animal models and the adult experience to unique aspects of heart failure in children.
